CONSTRUCTION- All of the Foley in a Timeline

Unfortunley the video accidentally goes on for 5 minutes- Once the sounds have finsihed then the Foley Sounds Timeline has ended.

CONSTRUCTION- Transferring and editing Foley sounds onto Final Cut Pro 10

This is fnal Cut Pro 10 . Here I  have edted the foley sounds nto the film. Firstly, the long green track is the sound track i then put below it two foley sounds. I have to ensure the foley sounds are in sync with the shot to make it look beleivable. Additionally, the foley sound has to blend into the soundtrack well. For example, if there is a loud part on the soundtrsck the foley sound will have to be louder to ensure that it is heard and vice versa with the soundttrack being quiet. These were a few factors i had to constantly consider.

This image shows the black line in the green box being moved down to 13db. This was done to make the sound effect of footsteps more quiet as the victim was walkng from a long shot angle with the shot that this foley sound is synched with. Therefore, the decibels would have to be lowered in order for the shot to look realistic.

This image shows the layering of foley sounds. In certain shots mroe than one foley sound was required. For example for the  London scenes had to overlay a variety of different sounds due to there being so many different sound effects that would be happening in London at one time. For example, the image above shows me overlaying the sound effects as there would have to be 'wind' /people talking' 'traffic' /vehicles' driving past 'sirens' all at the same time. It is important all these sound are used to make the opeining realistic and set a standard for the rest of the supposed film.

CONSTRUCTION- Downloading specific Foley Sounds

I got most of my Foley sounds from youtube, due to to that website having the largest range of sound effects that i could find.  For example, the sound effect of an escalator i could only find on youtube. I then downloaded the youtube clip to my memory stick.

I also got sounds from sound bible too. However, these sounds were more basic and i could only find a limited amount of sounds from there for example, cop siren noise.

The sounds i choose had to be specific towards the thriller opening and had to be realistic. For example,  footsteps. Both main characters in the thriller opening were walking on concrete in London. therefore I therefore i had to find not only footsteps but footsteps that sounded like they were walking on concrete. This was where youtube was useful as there is a large range of sound effects available on there that covered 'footsteps on concrete.'

Additionally, the vehicle the assassin drove was a mini cooper. Therefore i had to find and research what the engine of a mini-cooper sounded like and on youtube and find the correct sound effect. It was important i used the sound of the engine of a mini cooper as otherwise it would not be realistic.

This was me picking a sound effect of the mini cooper engine sound effect on youtube.

This is me downoading and converting that sound effect on youtube mp3 converter

This is me downloading music from sound bible for example- the sound of the car beeping.

CONSTRUCTION- Foley Sounds

We have each  done a individual edit. I have looked through the video considering that a lot of the sound will be taken out , as it will have put out and  then be edited in to make it sound clearer louder and more professional. This would be by adding the foley sounds in. this is a list of some of the foley sounds that we will edit into our final group edit.

-Gun shot x2
-Cars moving on the road.
-Finger pressing on car key button- clicking noise.
-Phone ringtone- one from iphone- the assassin would have a basic ringtone as he wants to be portrayed as serious and professional otherwise it would kill the tension.
-Doors closing
- Trains Moving
- TV noise flicking through channels.
- People speaking - background noise
- Assassin voice
- victims voice
- Assassins sons voice
- Rucksack Zipping up
- Zipping up the coat.
-Clatter of guns going into rucksack.
- Escalators the noise.
- Footsteps- on carpet and on a harder floor Eg- concrete.
- Hand brake
- the revs on the car
- the exhaust
-Gears/ throttle- accelerating.
- Cars moving across the road- friction
- Clicking on the laptop
- keyboard
- Camera clicking when capturing a image.
- Chair creaking when Victims sits into it.

Testing the ideas of shots and angles on one of our main locations in canary wholf an in porshe garage -surrey.

I took some photos in London to ensure that we had correct test shots. This was due to Alex and Ellie going to London to get test shots on the previous Friday when i was unable to attend. As a result of this i took my own shots of london at different angles to see what effect they would have on the thriller opening and how they link to a steretypical thriller. I done this to allow myself to be prepeared for shooting and to ensure i knew where we are going to be shooting.

This image is a low angle shot- I took this image to make canary wholf in London- ( one of our main shooting locations) appear powerful and intimidating. The low angle shot does this as it makes the building look even taller. This could be done when filming to show the location to be powerful, intreaging and easily relatable to the location of a typcial thriller opening.

I toook this image of canary wholf- interesting layout- geometric- interesting compostion would look effective on camera.

landscape image of canary wholf- appears powerful - dominating ,builds supsense and mystery- cannot see whats insdie the glass buildings.

interesting layout and compostiion
I took this shot in Surrey in the porsche garage. This mid shot would show the location in detail so that the audicne would know where this scene is and why it may possibly be set here. Antagonist works in Porshe company- expensive - buisness- typical antagonsit in Thriller.

I used my iphone 4s to take this image. I took this photo- which is called a panorama shot/. This allows me to take a image of canary wholf by walking around with the camera. This idea i thought could be used to show what a pannign shot of this image could look like. From this image it shows that a pan of canray wholf would eb good as the layout of my panorama image is interesting, effective and articulate. This panning shot would be effective as it allows hte audsicne ot get a clear shot of the location and most interestingly the surrounding area of the loaction. This alllows the audicne tofeel more involved with the thriller opening as it will be enitcing them and is involving them in the film, through the use of allowing them the knowledge of knwoing where the film is set.

Iconic Directors

Iconic directors was a fun task that we did as a group together. Alex, Nicole and myself all met up and researched directors of large films. This gave us some detailed information about some directors, which will be helpful in the future. We decided on drawing a simple drawing of what our directors look like then put them on wooden sticks, we then spoke the research that we found out about each dirtector.

Dexter Edit

Here is our Dexter Edit, we were only able to film half of it as the tape corrupted. We managed to film the kitchen routine scene which we were overall very happy with. We learnt a lot form this experience like lighting, camera angels, positioning and general camera work. Our skills using the camera have developed a lot since this shot.

Film Brainstorm- Motive- By Nicole Burrows

This is now a brainstorm of our previous idea, this is because we had to change the plot to make it more of a Crime/Action Thriller and make it more believable. Consequently, we will need to re-do this brainstorm to match the final plot.

Thriller Expectations- Vox Pop By Nicole Burrows

I picked three people that would have different opinions on thrillers due to age, gender and different interests. This allowed my results to show a wide range of different opinions on what is expected from thrillers.
